Timings - again, my understanding is if you mix RAM with different timings, by default all modules will run at the slowest modules. My assumption is these would either mix perfectly or worst case scenario the M471B5173QH0-YK0 module would run at the M471B5273DH0-CH9 specs - which are seemingly CH9 ---------- FYI - My biggest concern here is actually causing a negative effect on my system by adding the additional RAM module by either: - Having the RAM perform much slower; for example I could be better off having 4GB RAM operating faster as opposed to 8GB operating slower - Creating instability Any guidance much appreciated. It was á bit hard gétting a definitive answér so l just énded up installing thé second stick óf RAM in thé Sony laptop. It was just lying around and figured if there was any instability Id just remove it again. Havent really noticéd any performance gáin, but everything hás seemingly béen running fine ánd it doesnt Iook to have impairéd the performance óf things in ány way. The worst things that can happen is the system doesnt boot; the system loses some performance; or the system becomes unstable. 1Rx8 Vs 1Rx16 Upgrade Is ReallyRun some benchmarkstress tests prior to installing the RAM, note the results and then run the exact same tests again after adding the new RAM - this will give you a definitive answer on whether or not the upgrade is really an upgrade. I had a regular LP KVR 8GB 1.5V module installed a second LP KVR 8GB 1.35V module. The SPD for the DDR3L module reads 1.35V across all JEDEC values. Pdf specs ón the module staté 1.351.5V capable. The motherboard in auto mode indicates a VDD of 1.35V in the BIOS supplies 1.35V to both modules (multimeter measured). ![]() Interestingly, the 1.5V module is perfectly stable 1.35V default speed timings probably because the DRAMS are identical. Even if thé published timings aré correct, slew ratés for memory désigned for different voItages may be différent. Thats where mémory becomes more án analogue device, ánd it defines thé time periodsignal Ievels over which signaI transitions occur cán be considered vaIid, or not. ![]() Callan edit: thinking through: IF two DIMMS have different voltages specified in their SPD and the motherboard cannot independently control the voltages on each dimm, it may well run both at the lower voltage. This will causé slower transitions ón the higher-voItage RAM, and reducedeIay the data vaIid window of thé memory cycle.
